money down the drain...

February 4, 2007

My experiment with Vista failed. What a waste of money that was - fortunately I bought it from Myer using gift vouchers so the real dollar outlay wasn't too much. Fortunately mirrored my Windows XP setup before the upgrade - initially thought the 20Gb to do so was a waste of space...how wrong I was! Vista installed without a hitch, the complete reformat was a bit of a bugger though. I experienced four BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death) within the first two hours of usage: errors probably caused by the TV tuner being a tad too old but enough to cheese me off. Issues with the printer followed and the scanner soon after. Vista really looks great, and I loved the ability to scroll through the various open programs. It was however a bit too sluggish for my liking and I celebrated the restoration of XP. Now I have a legit copy of Vista sitting on my desk in its fancy box that looks like an oversized Virgin credit card. Will probably have another crack when the first Service Pack is released, at the moment it's too sluggish, too buggy and everything is annoyingly oversized (icons, warnings, tool bars etc). Bought and installed Vista on January 30, returned to XP on February 4...well done to Microsoft for wasting $6 billion dollars on development...Bill probably keeps that amount for parking change.

The end of holidays is near. What a time to return to Uni too with all the dramas currently effecting the train system. Not worried about a train overshooting its platform (unless it's at Frankston station!!!) but rather the overcrowding. Standing next time some bloke who has been working all day with sweaty armpits doesn't do anything for me! Suddenly my trainphobia became a whole lot worse. As if boarding a train wasn't bad enough in the first place I've not got to board trains that are packed like cattle trucks. Driving is sounding much more appealing despite the increase in costs.

Have my week off from work soon, I'm in dire need of doing something different. It has been over a year since my last full week off and I'm hanging for it. Now to make a list of things to do and people to see!

Damn these entries are getting far and few between when my life is only consisting of work!
