no roads lead to maccas...

July 23, 2008

Figured it was about time something was added. As always there's never anything worth sharing, maybe someone out there finds my ramblings somewhat worthy of filling in some time.

So, it was been a month since my Uncles passing, his ashes are being spread this Friday on what would've been his birthday. I'm surprised at how well the family have handled his passing. That may sound rather terrible but it's not. As mentioned in my previous entry he was sick for a long time and I've heard my Aunt say on more than one occasion that she has been preparing for the moment for years. My parents, along with my Aunt and her son and daughter-in-law are going on a cruise in January for a much needed break. I think it'll be good for all of them.

It would seem that I'm finally getting my shit together! The last few months have been a journey of self-discovery with the realisation of all things wrong in my life. It has been great revealing some things to my family that I've hidden for so long. I've been addressing my weight issues having lost almost eleven kilograms since April/May. Still another fifteen or so to go but already I can see a difference and my jeans now fit! I can also feel a general change in my attitude towards certain things, I've really stopped giving a toss about many things that brought me down in the past. I can honestly say I'm learning to appreciate the phrases "shit happens" and "fuck it". Some smaller things still get on my tits but with time I'll piss those off too...baby steps! I still have the fear that people hate me, but shit happens!

That fabulous new road Eastlink opened a couple of weeks ago, perhaps it's only fab because it's still in the free stage? Come Sunday it'll no longer be free so we'll see how often I use it then. It's so lovely and smooth and the few smaller trips I've made on it are fantastic. It doesn't appear to save heaps of time but it's nice not seeing traffic lights. If the link to connect Eastlink to the Western Ring Road goes ahead it would mean that there would only be handful of traffic lights between here and the airport...bliss!

What's with Facebook? Every time I log on it cracks me up! There's always someone from the past attempting to add you as a friend who never gave you the time of day at school. I don't feel anything towards many of those at High School but it's so cool seeing people from Primary School again as I have such wonderful memories from there. It's great seeing who's married, who has kids, what they're doing/done and what they look like now. Some I wouldn't recognise but others haven't changed a bit! Get to see some of the people I had crushes on and those I picked on! Ahh the memories!

Big Brother has finished for...not sure how long. Some say forever, others reckon it'll appear on another network in 2009. I probably only saw two shows this year, one being the opening night, the other being the finale. I've always been a fan of the concept: the idea of throwing a dozen people into a house and seeing what happens. The show has been shit for the last few years and completely turned me off...pretty much the same thing year in year out. The choice of housemates should somewhat reflect society, I would like to have seen a more diverse group – less boob-jobs, more ethnicity, different religions, varying ages and weights. Spare it in 2009, come back 2010 and I may watch a few more episodes.

I don't like to plug products on here unless it's really good but there was an article in computer section of The Age last week about a program/service by the name of Jungle Disk, I gave it a try and after one hour of the thirty day trial period I bought it. Now for me to buy any sort of program means it must be good and damn, if you're after an online backup solution it's awesome. A nice simple program, saving your files to Amazon for what turns out to be about twenty cents per month (next month will be less because my files are already backed up). So for what will be less than $5 per year all my photos, emails and documents are now stored off-site. I've a bit of a backup nut, as I speak I have them saved to another hard disk (same computer), another computer, an external disk and now online. I fear losing a lifetime of memories and photos if our house burns down...for $5 a year it's nothing. Given I no longer eat Big Macs it's the price of one burger.
