Telstra, you suck...

March 3, 2009

First week back at Uni. For first time ever I think I'm pretty excited about being here because I know it's the last roll of the dice for me. Quit now and it's the rest of life in dead-end jobs serving dead-end people dead-end products! I think now is a good time to start taking my three life goals seriously. With everything that has happened since November/December last year I reckon now's a good chance to get things back on track.

The olds are currently doing the Grey Nomad thing. They left Sunday morning and first night was Albury. Second night was going to be somewhere else but 80kms into the second day the car "just stopped"!!! Needless to they're both pretty pissed off, personally I just find it a bit funny! They spend $75,000 on a new four wheel drive then extra to convert it to gas, deck it out with GPS, reversing cameras on both the car and caravan, put in some you-beaut-fandangled CB radio, get it checked over before departure and it just stops!!! Then to top it all off had to wait four hours for NRMA to transport everything back to Albury!!! Would love to have been a fly on the wall when all this happened, not sure who would've used more expletives!

Boy have I had some fun with Telstra this past month. Bastard lying company to deal with they are. Bought a Blackberry and wanted it connected to the unlimited email/browsing plan so I rang up to get it added. Nobody knew how to do it and as a result was transferred fourteen times to different operators in different parts of Telstra. When the third operator who worked in Blackberry support transferred me to land line enquiries I knew it was going to be one of those days. Then the girl at home phones told me she wasn't very familiar with Blackberry and even said "that does email right?", but bless her, she at least attempted to fix my problem unlike a majority of the phone monkeys there. On the fourteenth transfer the operator said that it has been a joke and will lodge a complaint on my behalf and that a case manager will call me back within 48 hours (by Wednesday). Needless to say that didn't occur. So on Friday I called up and again was sent all over the company, this time only six transfers. Was told again on the final transfer that a case manager would "definitely" call me back by the end of the week. Yep, you guessed it, never happened. Called again (this is roughly two weeks after connection), this time quite pissed off. The second operator who also didn't know much about Blackberry was able to determine that what I wanted was incompatible with the plan I was on. Awesome, so it took two weeks, countless transfers, numerous calls and dropouts to be told by someone who didn't know that it was incompatible. Even the guys who work in Telstra Blackberry support just happened to overlook this! I knew for a fact that my plan was compatible and that I wanted something done about it. Was again advised my complaint was lodged and would be called back by a case manager. Yep, still waiting another week later. Since then I've used a contact within the company to sort things out, and needless to say it was all fixed within a couple of days. I cannot believe how much of a joke Telstra has become (and anybody who knows me will know that I generally have a good idea when it comes to Telstra!). I've since been fortunate enough to read the notes left on my account, and needless to say it reflects badly on the company. Notes left were like "did not know how to do it, transferred call", "attempted to transfer customer to sales, there nobody wanted to take ownership of customer" etc etc etc, I was the biggest hot potato getting around Telstra that week. If I were a "normal" customer, not having contacts or any clue I'd still be waiting for a case manager to call back. Absolute disgrace. And if that case manager rings I'll let rip.

As for the Blackberry itself: awesome. It is by far the best phone I've ever had. It's so different to every other phone on the market and it syncs beautifully to the PC (better than my previous Samsung). Providing this handset doesn't let me down later on I can imagine once you've had a Blackberry and become accustomed to what it does it would be near impossible to upgrade to another manufacturer. I love it (although my fingers feel a bit odd from the typing). Such a shame the only thing wrong with it was Telstra's lack of service.

Think I'll get out of the house tonight. Feeling rather reflective for some reason. If there was a Zen Garden at the top of the street I'd probably head there, given it's not an option I'll go into the city. Sure, it's the complete opposite to a garden but I like sitting and being surrounded by noise and organised chaos and at peak hour observing people who seem in a hurry to get back to a life they probably don't enjoy anyway!
