it all comes down to teamwork...

June 8, 2009

Went to the Good Food & Wine show Friday evening for a squiz. Okay, mainly went to see Gordon Ramsay! Was held at Jeff's Shed and was basically full of food and wine exhibitors. Was shocked at how many wineries and food producers were represented, any piss-pot could've gone and for the price of admission had a jolly good time tasting and tasting and tasting and tasting and tasting and tasting! Then when pissed go for some food tastings! I wasn't aware but Gordon was doing book signings, had I known I would've bought a biography from home for him to sign. Fortunately his books were available for purchase there so I grabbed one and queued. There was only about twenty people before of me and when Gordon arrived another hundred or so people joined the queue...I don't think all of them had the opportunity for a meet and greet. Anyway, his handshake was firm and said his trademark "nice to see you" and to my surprise he made eye contact when talking to me and was actually very friendly...completely different to his persona on TV. I'd never met anybody famous before so I just congratulated him on his success and that I admire successful people who come from non-privileged backgrounds. He thanked me and said "it all comes down to teamwork", so I guess in the context of our brief discussion he implied that he could never have done it alone. Spent about thirty seconds talking while he signed my book before another "good to see you, thanks for coming and take care". After the signing I stood around for a few minutes just watching...the girls were going silly around him! He made an effort to speak to everybody, asking pregnant women when they're due, talking (briefly) about his past and mentioned his family a few times when asked. So for those who slag him off I think he's actually a good guy, most of what's seen is purely for TV. After the signing he was doing a cooking demo to which I had VIP tickets for. Was seated four rows from front. This was more of the Gordon we're used to: in front of cameras and an audience. He's a natural 'entertainer', very confident, well spoken, and very funny! The demonstration went for about thirty minutes. I've been a Ramsay fan since accidentally discovering Boiling Point ten years ago, was immediately drawn to this creature who was like nothing else on television. Meeting him today added almost the final dimension to this person I've watched and read about. While it was a pretty expensive day out it was well worth it.

The Ramsay demonstration I attended was the one that started the Tracey Grimshaw debate. I found the whole thing hysterical! Sure it may not have been "appropriate" but it was funny and I genuinely believe tongue-in-cheek. There were a few groans from the audience when a Photoshopped picture of a woman with multiple breasts appeared on screen for a few seconds and Gordon referred to her as Tracey! I sure as hell wasn't offended by it and those around me enjoyed the laugh, I think it's been a media beat up. I went to see Gordon and that's what I got.

The new cable modem is going great guns. I'll still ring up and bitch if Optus charged me $80 for it but I've seen a 30% increase in speed between the old and new. Given the old modem was over nine years old a speed increase with a new product doesn't exactly surprise me. Had I known such an increase were possible I would've pretended it failed years ago!

I love how supermarkets now sell Zantac. When I first used to take them they were prescription only, now they're off the shelf. I can't remember who I was talking to months ago about them but apparently they're used by teenagers now as a little something to take before spending the night drinking! Not exactly sure how it's meant to help since they're an antacid but they're pretty much the only style tablets of this nature that work for me. And if they assist with alcohol absorption then fantastic because I'm such a big drinker and all!

I caught the train home from the Food & Wine Show and just happened to sit near a couple of slightly inebriated boys one of which was attempting to pickup a slightly older looking girl. This guy would've been about 18, he was black and looked like a stereotypical rapper...you know daggy clothes, cap on backwards etc etc. Anyway, he was talking to this girl and I could overhear him telling her that by night he's a rapper and by day he's an orthopedic surgeon! Hahaha, I couldn't keep a straight face! Either this kid was attempting to be serious and show off how brilliant he is or he was attempting to show his sense of humour. By his tone I suspect he was being serious! The girl kinda looked surprised however her slurred response indicated she believed him. The two guys got off at a different station so looks like Surgeon-G got no lovin' tonight. I so gotta work on my pickup techniques!!!

Second exam falls on the opening of Transformers 2. Pissed off.

Bloody car insurance is due at month's end.
