bloody group work...

Warning: major bitch session below. Continue reading at own risk:
What is it with group assignments? How come members can be so damn lazy? At the beginning I thought the two I was paired with were really cool. Over the past week I've typed up twelve or so pages and was waiting for their part so I could write an analysis but it didn't arrive anywhere near the scheduled time. The assignment was due at midday today and three days ago I receive an email from one of them saying due to his workload he has been unable to finish his parts but wanted to know if there was anything more tangible he could work on so he doesn't appear a freeloader. Too bad I was only waiting for their parts.
Emailed the lecturer yesterday asking what would happen if I submit an incomplete assignment, was told he'd mark me on the parts I completed and wouldn't be disadvantaged in any way. Feeling calmer about the whole thing now and resigned to the fact I'd be submitting an incomplete assignment I receive their parts at 1am - eleven hours before due time. As I mentioned I wrote twelve pages, their combined effort was six pages, two pages consisting of a table (in the form of a survey: ten basic questions and tick boxes so basically no work there) and the remaining pages were screen captures and text. The screen captures were pasted into Paintbrush with hand-drawn circles using the pen tool...looks so rushed and incredibly unprofessional. What they did was also wrong, they didn't follow the assignment specification at all! The survey was never done and any results made up because the survey was faked. I spend the next four hours fixing it all up attempting to make it look presentable. One guy offered to meet me at 10am to finish it off, told him I'd write the remaining two sections myself. The end result was some 4000 words with them contributing 900...450 words each. Went to bed at nearly 7am.
We were required to demonstrate our work in tonight's tutorial. Mr.Clueless had to do the quick demonstration (it was his responsibility) and it was so obvious he hadn't done anything. Was rather amusing him watching him squirm because it was obvious he hadn't done anything. I peered over the lecturer's/tutor's shoulder watching him write in his clipboard and it wasn't favourable. Fortunately the tutor being the lecturer I emailed was aware of the lack of work by the other two but didn't indicate to the others that I had contacted him beforehand venting my frustration.
We also had to submit an anonymous participation form detailing our work in the assignment. Knowing the others would want to see mine I sneakily made two forms: one I would show them and the real one I would submit. On the fake form they requested to see I detailed the various sections saying I contributed an average of 35% in the various components and my overall contribution was 40%. They copied my format so it appeared we roughly did our fair share. However, in handing over the form I did the ol' switcharoo to the real form saying I did 100% of the work in most criteria and an overall contribution of 80% (generous). My comments were very critical too.
Been such a fucked up week with a total of three assignments due. Over this time I would like to thank Ducene for providing four nights of decent sleep! As of tonight I'm a free man and looking forward to regaining some life again. Will be interesting to see what comes of this group assignment. Obviously I don't want the other two to fail but they sure as hell don't deserve anything higher than a Pass.
On another note in my last entry I mentioned that I would write to Nestle/Uncle Toby's about dodgy popcorn. I wrote product feedback not a complaint and they responded a couple of days later. Was obvious they didn't read my email because despite telling them how I zapped it and times used they told me again. Anyway, for the inconvenience caused they're sending me a cheque for $3 (to cover the costs of the two bags I bought). Hahaha, $3?!! Can I really be bothered standing in a bank queue for ten minutes to make $3? For such a pissy amount I wish they'd donate it to a charity instead.
I'm SOOOO buggered. Time for bed. I think a midday wakeup tomorrow is in order. Needed to type this to unwind a bit...hasn't worked!!! Grrr...
Update: Nestle sent out a cheque in the amount of $12. That's a bit more worthwhile! Had to deposit a larger cheque at same time but can't say I would've been in any hurry to deposit the twelve.
