Long day but a good day...

December 25, 2009

Ho, ho, ho! Merry F'n Christmas! Damn I hate this time of year, I was hoping that enjoying my first Xmas off away from the retail/hospitality environment would change my attitude towards this day but it hasn't. Everything is too sucky and too fake with everything geared towards making a dollar. I don't even know what the spirit of Christmas is anymore, even Santa at the local shopping centre is being paid by the hour to listen to kids nagging for a new GameBoy and a Barbie. I hate commercialisation with a passion especially when it's under the guise of religion. Bah, bring on the Test tomorrow because I'm sick of all this fakeness.

Our Christmas was spent over near Epping at a reception centre with some family and approximately 690 others! An enjoyable day but it's so far away! Everybody lives on that side of the city so traveling anywhere for us requires a packed lunch and half a dozen toilet breaks on the way! Still, five courses, unlimited beer, wine and softdrinks so can't really complain. It's either enjoy a stressful lunch here that requires cleaning up afterward or pay someone else to look after us! It was nice returning home with a full belly! A long day without a Nanna Nap though!

Dad retired yesterday. Yes, an early Christmas present for him! After 47-odd years he can now hangup the uniform, pack away the walkie-talkie and throw away the dodgy company supplied Nokia and enjoy the good life. Give it a few months and I really the idea of not working will really hit him. The next couple of months will be like a holiday and then the realisation will hit home.

So as much as I dislike Christmas I hope everybody has a wonderful week. Enjoy the pressies, enjoy friends and family, enjoy the food and importantly stay safe both on and off the roads.

Nothing else to report, I'm going to bed!
