In review...

December 31, 2009

The last entry for 2009. I usually write a year in review but instead I'll write about the lessons learned (usually the hard way) this year:

- Avoid group work.
- Informing the lecturer you did 90% of a group assignment is a waste of time because we'll all get the same grade.
- If the dog starts making funny sounds it's a good idea to put them outside, or have a mop handy.
- Don't purchase a modem from Dick Smith - they're bloody clueless.
- BlackBerry smartphones are awesome!
- Telstra's regional managers are completely shit.
- Complain more often, you get stuff for free.
- Dentist's aren't too bad.
- Always keep a receipt for thirty days.
- Girls are still completely weird.
- Outback Steakhouse charge almost $3 for sauce.
- VoIP is just starting to become a viable alternative to a landline.
- Look left and right before passing through an intersection or you'll cop a middle finger!
- Interesting people can be found in the most unlikely places.
- It's possible to get teary eyed during a cartoon.
- Dad's still say everything is fine despite having pneumonia.
- There is not a reason to everything - things just happen.
- No matter which company runs Melbourne's train network they'll still be terrible.
- You'll never live down missing a friends 30th citing traffic concerns.
- Usenet is better that BitTorrent.
- Beetroot isn't nearly as bad as I thought.
- Maccas pickles aren't nearly as bad as I thought.
- Pumpkin is still as bad as I thought.
- Neighbours are stupid.
- Voicemail is a Godsend.
- Stupid people pretending to be smart are still stupid.
- Asking for a better price at departments stores is actually worth the embarrassment.
- People still only want to be your friend when they need something or they're single.
- Consuming two cans of Red Bull consecutively is not a good idea.
- America is much more appealing with Obama in charge.
- I should've changed to Outlook years ago.
- Bedrooms are expensive to update.
- The latest and most expensive Linksys routers are pathetic at maintaining a wireless signal.
- Windows 7 should've been Windows Vista.
- Research before making changes to your online backup system, or you'll have to reupload 4GB three times.
- Facebook is still a waste of time.
- Jumping from a six foot fence onto concrete isn't such a good idea when you're over thirty.
- Having three assignments due AND having a family member pass away is no excuse to delay replying to an email because you will be unnecessarily abused and made to feel like a piece of shit.

I for one am feeling rather optimistic about next year (funny saying "next year" considering it's tomorrow). I'm usually the pessimistic variety but I feel good! Give it a few days and I'll probably revert back to my negative ways but we'll wait for the first diary entry in 2010 to find out.

So that's it for 2009, wishing (almost) everybody a happy and safe new year!
