Five dollar bargain...

January 24, 2010

Went into Coles the other for the first time in ages and bought three items totally around $40. Upon paying the checkout chick hadn't bagged my items so I requested a bag. She said that it's against company policy to give a bag with three times or less. I did the "aww, common" thing but she wouldn't budge. I needed a bag and she said it would be 15c. Having no choice I paid. I obviously don't care about the fifteen cents but it raises some questions. Do staff really have such little discretionary powers? I spent $40 on three items that would've been a pain to carry up two escalators and roughly 400m to my car, not $2 on three sticks of gum. Buying the bag would've been the fourth item so would I then be entitled to put my four items (include the bag) in another bag? If I buy four or more items and decline a bag do they give me a 15c rebate? Sounds like another company pretending to care about the environment when they really only care about profit margins. I've noticed Safeway and IGA have this policy but whenever I've requested one they happily give a bag. Goodbye Coles, you're out of the way anyway but I'm sure as hell not returning...cost you a bit more than 15c now eh? Greedy bastards. I wrote a letter of complaint (tongue-in-cheek) so I hope they reply!

Cleaned out my cupboards last week and bought some new tubs to store all my crap in. Some of the junk that gets accumulated over the years is amazing. Turfed a lot of stuff from Germany which is now ten years old and found some rather interesting memorabilia from yesteryear. One item was a couple of hand written letters from a girl I used to have a crush on well before the days of email! Can't believe they were in there, had no idea they were even kept. She has since married and I have absolutely no idea of her surname so can't find her on Facebook. And what's with dreams containing people I haven't spoken to, about or even thought of in fifteen years?!! Pretty funny, that from out of nowhere they take a leading role in a dream!

Love the cricket season. Went to the 20-20 match last week between Victoria and Tassie at the MCG. The day, like most of my days now, was empty so decided to go. Best part? The ticket price was $5. Yep, five dollars. It was a general admittance ticket and I decided to sit where I usually do, the premium section for One Dayers that cost me $100. Sure it wasn't our international team playing but for a saving of $95 and six hours of entertainment it seriously couldn't be beaten. Infact I'd happily pay $25 for the ticket. Was my first 20-20 and it wasn't too bad, as usual spent more time watching the crowd than the actual game and a record crowd it was at 43,125.

Was having a gander at a usual website I visit and noticed they had a job section. Not that I'm interested because it's in America but one position available was for an experienced web designer with five plus years. The pay rate was US$10 per hour. Seriously? At the time of writing that converted to AUD$11.02. Five years experience to earn $11 an hour? Get stuffed! I was paid marginally more at a restaurant over ten years ago and I didn't have any experience and we don't get tips here.

Dad is now completely and officially retired. Now just got to find him something to do. He still receives a crap load of emails from work, none of which really mean anything anymore.

Finally caught up on all seasons of Dexter, looking forward to five already. Final season for Lost begins shortly...can't wait! Will have to re-watch season five to refresh.

Update: Got a reply from Coles, they admit that the checkout chick got it wrong and she should've asked me if I wanted a bag. The reply also says that the store manager will speak to the team member to clarify the policy so it doesn't happen again...one problem I didn't mention the team member by name so I'm pretty sure I got a stock-standard letter of reply! Either way I stuck it up em!
